Encountering God at Home Retreat Part 1

This Retreat was held at the Temple in Independence, MO, on April 7-9, 2017.   Over 20 members from Lamoni Heartland Mission Center attended this intergenerational retreat.

As families create new routines with the new school year, here are some tips from Monica Bradford and Donna Sperry on making time for God.

The Prayer of Examen for Children and Families:

1.Create a signal for prayer time.  Breath in love through your toes and legs and into your chest. Then breathe out love to fill the whole room.

2. Place your hand on your heart and ask God to help you remember the moment from today you are most grateful for.  What about this moment made you feel special?

3. Ask God to help you remember the moment you are least grateful for.  What made it so difficult?

4. Each person can share anything about these moments that they would like to.  Encourage everyone to listen without comment.

5.  Offer a prayer of Gratitude for today and Hope for Tomorrow.

Other questions that can be used in steps 2 and 3 that seem age appropriate for your children:

When was I happy?/When was I sad?

What am I doing that I enjoy?  What am I doing because I should?

What was the best thing about today?  What do I wish hadn’t happened?

Where did I see God today?  Where did I feel distanced from God?
